The Benefits of Cork Wall and Floor Tiles

  • AIRBORNE & VIBRATIONAL SOUND REDUCTION

Cork reduces the transmission of sound, vibration, heat and thus is a great insulator. The air-filled cellular structure gives cork very poor thermal conductivity properties thereby making it a good insulator. The low density and low bulk modulus (how hard to compress) of cork drastically reduces the vibrational energy transfer through cork. This makes cork a great material for recording studios, conference rooms, libraries, and wherever sound proofing is required. Cork has long been used in commercial buildings between floors and on roofs under heavy machinery for sound and vibration reduction. Cork reduces impact sound as well as sound transmission.

  • DURABILITY

Cork flooring has a very long life and can be repaired if damaged. We have repaired 60+ years cork floors by sanding and application of a suitable lacquer. The quietness of cork floors and ease of repairs makes cork the preferred choice for public buildings including churches, libraries, schools, care-homes and community centres.

  • SOFTNESS & QUIETNESS

The millions of air-filled cells in cork's cellular structure gives cork a cushioned feel on the foot. Visit a cork flooring showroom and walk on a cork floor. The difference in comfort compared to oak or other hardwood floors will be immediately noticeable. The softness of cork is just-right and can be installed in all living spaces including kitchens and bathrooms

  • WATER RESISTANT

Cork is naturally water resistant. Cork cells are coated with a waxy substance making them impermeable to moisture. High humidity is not a problem for our 100% cork tiles. *Note that engineered click cork flooring have a structural non-cork core and special consideration and sealants must be used if installed in high humidity areas.

  • ANTI-ALLERGENIC & PEST RESISTANT

Cork cells are packed with suberin, nature's wonder biopolymer which forms a gas and watertight structure within the cork cell walls, making them resistant to external pathogens and other ecological stresses. It is the presence of suberin that gives cork its antimicrobial properties. Tests have shown cork displays high antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, with a bacterial reduction of almost 100% (96.93%) after 90 minutes of incubation, and a more reduced but time-constant antibacterial action was observed against Escherichia coli (36% reduction of the initial number of bacterial colonies). Bugs, mites and even mould are repelled by cork. It is precisely for this reason that we recommend cork flooring for those suffering from dust or mites allergies.

  • ELASTICITY

Visit some of London's oldest churches, libraries and public venues, chances are you will stumble on a cork floor. Cork flooring is an extremely durable choice. The soft insulating property of cork, and its excellent compressibility makes cork suitable not just for floors but also wine stoppers. Cork can be compressed to roughly half its depth without loosing any flexibility, and can be decompressed to return to its original shaper.

  • QUIETNESS & SOFTNESS

Buyer expressly agrees that Seller’s Invoice and these Terms and Conditions of Sale represent the complete agreement of the parties with respect to the sale of the product(s) listed on the Invoice and no different or additional terms or conditions in Buyer’s purchase order or in any other prior or subsequent communications in any way adding to, modifying or otherwise changing these Terms and Conditions of Sale shall be binding upon Seller.

  • NATURAL CALMING VARIATIONS

Yoga studios, libraries, meditation halls, nurseries...wherever a calm vibration is needed choose cork flooring. When a soundwave hits cork, the air in the cork compresses like a cushion absorbing and deadening the impact.

  • ANTISTATIC

Cork does not accumulate electrical charge when rubbed. As such cork will not attract any charged particles or dust. Cork is naturally anti-static

  • RECYCLABLE

Cork is 100% recyclable. Whether wine stoppers or old cork tiles; cork can be regranulated and converted into other products. Cork will naturally breakdown in landfills...this process however last very long as cork cells have the best natural polymer that keeps them air and watertight.

  • EASY INSTALLATION

Our cork floors come in tiles or engineered boards with an easy locking system. Cork tiles can be either pre-finished or unfinished. Pre-finished cork tile have a durable factory finished lacquer which signifincantly reduces the installation time. Unfinished cork tiles will need to be treated with a suitable lacquer or hard-wax oil. We offer a comprehensive DIY guide for both cork tiles and cork floating floors installation. What's more, just give us a call if you would like our expert team to professionally install your cork floor. Note that cork is a natural product, and there will be variations between tiles even if manufactured from the same tree.

  • THERMAL INSULATION

Cork is naturally insulating and maintains a comfortable median temperature. Unlike other flooring materials, cork will never get too hot or cold no matter the weather. Tests have shown there is less heat loss from walking barefoot on a cork floor than with ceramic tiles, hardwood or even vinyl flooring. The air pockets in cork cellular structure makes cork the most sustainable thermal insulator.
